In July 2023, Hamilton City Council tasked the Government Relations and Community Engagement Division with reviewing the City’s Volunteer Advisory Committees (VACs). Partnering with the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton (SPRC), the review gathered feedback from committee members, staff liaisons, and Council through surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
The review aimed to assess engagement methods and identify challenges within the current advisory structure. It also examined other community-based advisory groups that the City consults for input and collaboration.
This report was prepared for the City in April 2024 and made public in November 2024.
