On June 24, 2025, the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton (SPRC) held our annual community impact event to reflect on and share the impact of our programs in the community over the past year. In attendance were SPRC staff, board members, and members of the community. This year’s event also included a screening of the documentary “A Matter of Justice: Climate Change in Black Communities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area” by Dr. Ingrid Waldron, which examines how local Black communities disproportionately experience climate injustice.

Following the screening, Dr. Waldron and SPRC staff facilitated discussions to reflect on factors that contribute to Black and other marginalized communities being disproportionately impacted by climate change, how communities can mobilize to advance climate justice, and how the SPRC can support communities in their efforts. The findings from the table discussions were shared within the larger group and analyzed by SPRC staff to create this summary report. Click here to view the report.
