Tenants are being squeezed by increasing rental prices as illustrated in the previous bulletins in this series (Rents and affordability in Hamilton and Ontario and Rents in Hamilton’s neighbourhoods). This bulletin provides data for another pressure renters are under: increasing threats of evictions from their homes. Eviction notices for reasons other than non-payment of rent, many of which are for landlord’s own use or for renovations, are increasing at alarming rates, more than doubling in the last 10 years.
